About The Claim
Our client owns and operates a number of children’s care homes. The client’s accountant engaged us with the aim of securing a capital allowance claim based on property acquisition and improvement costs across seven properties. During the early stages, one property was excluded from the scope and set aside for future consideration, allowing us to focus on six care homes for the initial claim.

Our Approach
To manage the intricacies of the project, including costs incurred by the client, we followed a structured and collaborative approach. We began with a comprehensive review of the client’s records and prepared a proposal outlining the estimated tax-saving potential. With agreement in place, our surveyors conducted detailed on-site inspections of each property to create inventories of potentially qualifying items.
These inventories were then valued by our technical team, who assessed which assets were eligible for capital allowances and identified the appropriate categories. We cross-referenced client expenditure records with our findings to ensure alignment and accuracy. The draft inventories were submitted to the client for review before finalising the valuation.
Once the technical review was complete, we prepared a Claim Summary detailing the allowances identified and the projected tax benefit. We also produced an amended corporation tax return, complete with reconciliations to illustrate the financial impact. Following review and approval by both the client and their accountant, the amended return was submitted to HMRC.

“The properties involved in the claim are all children’s homes, so access had to be handled carefully and sensitively. Their team was incredibly respectful, flexible, and understanding throughout the process, working around our availability without any disruption to our services. We were so pleased to receive a tax refund.”

“We always recommend CARS to clients with commercial properties. Their technical knowledge and ability to identify every available allowance is fantastic. It’s reassuring to work with a team that is reliable and meticulous.”

An observation from our Claims Analyst, Christine Hunter...
“Despite the initial complexities, our structured approach allowed us to confidently align all figures and produce a highly accurate claim. It was particularly satisfying to see the final claim value come in within £1,000 of our original projection, a testament to our thorough analysis and collaborative process with both the client and their accountant.”
