About The Claim
Central Frozen Food Ltd incurred substantial expenditure costs of £1,429,104 for the construction and fit-out of a new warehouse between 2021 and 2023. The claim targeted tax breaks for Annual Investment Allowance, Super-deduction, and Structures & Buildings Allowance. Our due diligence revealed that the accountant had already claimed a significant portion due to the building’s function and the high value of plant. The challenge lay in identifying and enhancing the possible capital allowances whilst excluding specific items already claimed to ensure accuracy.

Our Approach
To address this challenge, we meticulously identified previously claimed items from the accountant’s records. Conducting an extensive property survey, we provided the client with a detailed report outlining identified items and their valuation. Utilising the client’s nominal ledger for costing wherever possible, our chartered surveyors carefully valued items not identifiable from transaction lists.
Following the valuation, items were categorised into general and special rate pools. Applying the appropriate allowances, such as Annual Investment Allowance and Super-deduction, we formulated a comprehensive claim. Throughout this process, we maintained transparent communication with the client, offering regular meetings to discuss progress and address any queries.
The result was a highly successful claim, boasting a refund of over £38,511 (plus interest) in the 2022 tax period. The finalised claim figures were seamlessly integrated into the client’s tax return by their accountant, showcasing the effectiveness of our thorough approach.

An observation from our Managing Director, Chris Roberts...
“Given the extensive equipment required to keep their stock in a saleable condition, it is an ideal business for capital allowances claims. The case shows the importance of accurate identification and valuation in optimising capital allowances. Despite a large portion being identified by the accountant, our teams skillset enabled our client to claim even more.”

“The process was really smooth, efficient, and positive! It made it really easy for us as we started with a lot of expenditure with no clarity over what was claimable and what wasn’t. We gave the information to you and it was returned a few weeks later in report form, breaking down exactly what values could be claimed. The different capital allowance pools were all broken down really clearly so that we could just add the figures to our corporation tax return, feeling confident that it had been looked at by the professionals! SBAs were also mentioned on the remaining balance. Between us we ensured no tax relief was missed for the client.”
